ABB kick-started Freelance User Forum

2011-11-08 - 160 participants used the opportunity to get the latest updates on ABB’s Freelance control system.

ABB Automation in Germany conducted for the first time a Freelance User Forum with a tremenduous positive feedback. Participants of the oil and gas, chemical, biogas, paper and power industry as well as of the educational sector gathered for the show. Among the 160 participants were long-standing customers of ABB who trust on Freelance technology as a reliable control system in their production facilities, but also interested visitors and sales partners of ABB.

The highlight during the Freelance User Forum was a future workshop giving an outlook on upcoming developments. It also provided the frame for a discussion between the management and participants. “The insight in future developments was highly appreciated by all participants. We are thus convinced to be on the right track with our planning.” said Elmar Vogt, Global Product Line Manager for Freelance.

The focus of the User Forum was not only on exchanging experiences but also on introducing new functionality and hardware of Freelance. Topics like Bulk Data Manager, Loop Performance Manager for the optimization of control loops and solutions for Asset Management were presented in the various seminars. A particularly urgent subject for the customers was the presentation regarding IT security as a result of the current virus threats in the automation technology.

Within 16 workshops and seminars the participants had the chance to get a deeper insight in maintenance and lifecycle, training, engineering and product information of Freelance. Potential applications were introduced and in the comprehensive exhibition Freelance experts answered questions regarding e.g. control cabinet construction or fieldbus applications. Besides the possibility to get an overview of the complete Freelance product range in the exhibition, four partner companies – Delta Control, Dietz Automation, GESAT and SpiraTec – provided the opportunity to get to know their portfolio based on Freelance technology.

Together with ABB the partners donated their “booth fees” to Special Olympics, an organization for the support of people with intellectual disabilities, which ABB sponsors for more than 10 years. Gregor Kilian, Regional BU Manager Control Technologies, Central Europe presented a donation check totaling 1000 € to Special Olympics.
